The Great Poster Project
Release #1: Polly Apfelbaum
Polly Apfelbaum has designed a faux commercial poster for her own work that mimics a mass-produced poster one might find in a museum gift shop. Conceptually, Pink Corkbats Polly Apfelbaum 2009 recalls the work of Andy Warhol (who used commercial processes to create unique and limited edition works), Martin Kippenberger (who extended his practice to the design of posters for his shows), and others. But the work is pure Apfelbaum: referencing the wood floor sculptures she made early in her career and doing it with wit and visual allure. Printed in ghosted pink text along the bottom of the poster is the poster's title "Pink Corkbats Polly Apfelbaum 2009".
The dimensions of these original posters are scalable: while the total edition size is limited to a fixed number (we will only print 50 posters in total, regardless of size), buyers can choose from one of three pre-determined sizes. Collectors interested in the scalable nature of the edition might consider purchasing three—one in each size—and exhibiting them together.
